World Hepatitis Day is an international event focused on raising awareness about viral hepatitis and providing education around prevention, testing and treatment of hepatitis C. It is estimated 600,000 Canadians live with viral hepatitis and (according to the Public Health Agency of Canada) roughly 44% of these people don’t know they have it because they have never been tested. In the past few years, several new, highly effective Hep C treatments have been approved in Canada, making treatment quicker, easier and more successful than it has ever been. World Hepatitis Day is an opportunity to celebrate these advancements and provide support/education about hepatitis C in our community.
